UNC Falls To No. 6 Texas A&M

The North Carolina men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday evening, falling 4-3 to No. 6 Texas A&M in the quarterfinals of the ITA National Indoor Championships in Seattle. UNC is now 8-1 on the season, while the Aggies improved to 7-1.
UNC opened by claiming the doubles point behind wins on Court 1 and Court 3. At No. 1, senior Robert Kelly and sophomore William Blumberg won 6-2. Sophomore Simon Soendergaard and freshman Mac Kiger clinched the point with a 6-4 win on Court 3.
In singles, the Aggies took the first set on five of six courts. The first to go final was Court 3, where Texas A&M's Jordi Arconada beat Kelly 7-6(6), 6-1 to even the score at 1-1. The Aggies led 2-1 following a straight-sets win by Juan Carlos Aguilar over Tar Heel sophomore Josh Peck on Court 5.
UNC junior Blaine Boyden won on Court 6 to pull the Tar Heels even. He improved to 5-0 this spring with the 6-3, 7-6(3) victory. Carolina led 3-2 after Blumberg earned a win on Court 1, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
The Tar Heels couldn't get the final point, however, dropping the last two singles matches, on Court 4 and finally on Court 2, where Arthur Rinderknech beat freshman Benjamin Sigouin 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to finish off the match.
