No. 1 UNC Visits Miami, FSU This Weekend

CHAPEL HILL - The No. 1 ranked North Carolina women's tennis team returns from an extended break with two road matches this weekend in the state of Florida.Â
Carolina (14-1, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) will face No. 31 Miami on Friday in Coral Gables at 4 p.m. and 22nd-ranked Florida State on Sunday in Tallahassee at 12 p.m.

The Tar Heels, who last competed on Sunday, March 4 with a 6-1 win over Syracuse, extended their run as the nation's top-ranked team to five weeks with the updated Oracle/ITA Division I rankings released earlier this week.Â
UNC and Pepperdine remain the only two programs in the country with six ranked singles players.
Sophomore Makenna Jones is the highest ranked Tar Heel at No. 12, followed by freshman Alle Sanford at No. 16 and sophomore Sara Daavettila at No. 24. Junior Jessie Aney checks in at No. 40, sophomore Alexa Graham is No. 78 and junior Chloe Ouellet-Pizer re-enters at No. 112.Â
In doubles, Aney and Graham is No. 2, while Daavettila and Jones are No. 16. Additionally, Jones and Ouellet-Pizer are at No. 64 yet haven't competed together since late January.
The Hurricanes (7-3, 3-0) head into Wednesday's bout with No. 6 Georgia Tech on a five-match winning streak. Sophomore Estela Perez-Somarriba was named the ACC Player of the Week for the second time this season on Tuesday, while Ulyana Shirokova garnered her first ACC Freshman of the Week distinction after wins over FSU and Longwood.Â
Perez-Somarriba is ranked No. 18 in singles, while veteran Sinead Lohan, a two-time All-America, sits 108th. In doubles, Ana Madcur and Perez-Somarriba are No. 34. Â
FSU (9-4, 2-2) had its two-match winning streak halted last time out after a 5-2 setback against Miami on Friday, March 9 from the USTA Tennis Center in Lake Nona, Florida.
The Seminoles boast one doubles pair in the national rankings, Andrea Garcia and Petra Hule at No. 53. Carla Truly is No. 54 in singles.Â
Carolina returns home next weekend to host the sixth-ranked Yellow Jackets on Saturday, March 24 at 11 a.m. and No. 36 Virginia Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m.
