Godwin & Shippee Earn All-ACC Honors On First Day Of ACC Championships
May 10, 2018 | Track & Field
CORAL GABLES, Fla. - University of North Carolina redshirt-senior Emily Godwin earned All-ACC honors for the 12th time in her career and freshman Jill Shippee earned the distinction for the first time as the Tar Heels completed day one of the 2018 ACC Track & Field Championships at Cobb Stadium Thursday.
Godwin tied for third in the women's high jump with a jump of 5-6 ½ (1.69 meters) to reach the podium in ACC Championship competition and earn first-team All-ACC honors for the fifth time in her career.Â
"I am really happy to see Emily, our fifth-year senior, go out on a positive note," head coach Harlis Meaders said. "She had a fantastic start to her career at UNC. We had a few injuries in years three and four, but then she bounced back and finished really well today."
After narrowly missing All-ACC honors in the weight throw during the indoor season, Shippee finished fourth and claimed second-team honors with her throw of 202-2 (61.63 meters) in the women's hammer throw
"We hoped to be a little bit better, but it was a good performance on a tough circle here at the University of Miami," Meaders said. "She kept her composure and was able to finish fourth, and we are excited for her. All-ACC is a great accomplishment as a freshman."
