Will Play His Senior Year in 2018-19
University of North Carolina All-ACC forward Luke Maye is withdrawing from the 2018 NBA Draft process and will return to school next year to play his senior season for the Tar Heels.
Â
Maye made the announcement Thursday morning via Instagram (luke_maye32):
Â
"I have had a great experience learning from the NBA process and growing as a basketball player during the past couple weeks. I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches and teammates for all of their support. Through this process, I have decided that I am going to come back to school to improve as a player and finish my college career. I am looking forward to the opportunities and challenges that I will face and there is no better group to do it with than my teammates and the Carolina family! Time to finish the right way with two of the best players and leaders (senior Kenny Williams and graduate student Cameron Johnson) that I know! Let's finish our legacy the right way!"
Â
Maye earned third-team All-America, first-team All-ACC and first-team All-ACC Tournament honors in 2017-18 after averaging 16.9 points and 10.1 rebounds for the 26-11 Tar Heels. He was also the ACC's Most Improved Player, the league's top scholar-athlete and a second-team Academic All-America. He was the only player in the ACC to win Player of the Week honors three times last year. He and Duke's Marvin Bagley were the only players to rank in the top 10 in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage.
Â
The Huntersville, N.C., native has scored 857 points in three seasons. He was the Most Outstanding Player in the 2017 NCAA South Regional.
