Cloutier, Emala, Kelly join Team USA player Holman in game
BOSTON, MASS. – Four former University of North Carolina men's lacrosse players will be on the field on Thursday, June 28 at Harvard Stadium as the Major League Lacrosse All-Stars meet Team USA in a contest that begins at 7 p.m.
Attackman Marcus Holman, all-star player for the Ohio Machine, will be competing for Team USA as it goes up against the MLL All-Stars in advance of the national team squad heading to the World Lacrosse Games next month in Israel.
Holman, a 2013 Tar Heel graduate, will be joined by fellow Tar Heel alumni which include attackman Chris Cloutier, Class of 2018, who plays now for the Denver Outlaws, attackman Davey Emala, Class of 2013, who is Holman's teammate at the Ohio Machine, and Stephen Kelly, Class of 2017, a midfielder and face-off man for the Chesapeake Bayhawks.
This marks the first time in four years that the Major League Lacrosse All-Stars will face off against Team USA in one of the biggest sports events in Boston over summer 2018. MLL announced 30 players representing the league in the game on June 12. Face-off is Thursday, June 28 at 7 p.m. at Harvard Stadium.
"We are thrilled to invite 30 of the best players in the world to represent MLL in this year's All-Star Game," said MLL Commissioner Alexander Brown. "Not only will the best players in the world be on display, but this grudge match has historically proven to be one of the most exciting events our game has to offer. For any lacrosse fan, this game is the one that they will not want to miss."
The last time these two teams met, Cornell alumnus Rob Pannell scored with just seven seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to lift Team USA to a 10-9 win over the MLL All-Stars.
Amongst the 30 players named to the MLL All-Star Team for the 2018 roster are six rookie phenoms, including the Tar Heels' stellar attackman Chris Cloutier, who was the MVP of the 2016 NCAA Tournament and 2017 ACC Tournament.
