CHAPEL HILL --- North Carolina junior pitcher Rodney Hutchison was the first Tar Heel to get drafted in 2018, going to the Yankees with the 187th pick of the MLB Draft. The 6-6 junior from Mason, Ohio has played a key role on the mound since his freshman season, becoming a major presence over the past two years. Last year, the right-hander went 7-4 with a 4.14 ERA over 58.2 innings, striking out 53 batters. In 2018, Hutchison has already worked 58.1 innings, including a nine-inning midweek shutout against North Carolina A&T on March 13. He pitched a scoreless frame against Georgia Tech in the ACC tournament and worked scoreless innings against both A&T and Houston in the NCAA regional last weekend.
