Tar Heels Power Past Bahamas All-Stars In Nassau

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Garrison Brooks and freshman Coby White both scored 18 points to lead six Tar Heels in double figures as the University of North Carolina defeated the Bahamas All-Stars, 112-91, on Friday at the Kendal Isaacs National Gymnasium.

It was the first of two exhibition games UNC is playing in the Bahamas. Carolina plays the NPBA All-Stars on Saturday at 3 p.m. This is the fourth time Carolina has played in the summer in the Bahamas under head coach Roy Williams (2005, 2009, 2014 and 2018).

Brooks was 8 for 9 from the floor, while White made 6 of 9 field goal attempts and converted all six of his free throws. Kenny Williams scored eight of his 12 points in the first quarter as the Tar Heels overcame its only deficit of the game at 6-2 to take a 36-27 lead after one period.

Seventh Woods, Andrew Platek and Nassir Little also scored 11 points apiece for the Tar Heels, who shot 56.6 percent from the floor for the game.

Carolina committed 27 turnovers and was whistled for 26 personal fouls, which sent the All-Stars to the line for 44 free throws (they made 27).

Sterling Manley grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds as the Tar Heels dominated the boards by a 65-34 margin. Manley also had four assists, all in the first half. White led UNC with five assists.

Van Hutchinson and M Fortie combined for 44 points for the All-Stars, who made eight three-pointers.

Carolina led 36-27 after one, 64-46 at the half and 90-71 after three quarters. The All-Stars cut UNC's 19-point lead to 12 at 76-64 in the third quarter, before UNC went on an 8-0 run to break the game open. Luke Maye scored twice and Leaky Black and Brandon Robinson had run-out dunks in the stretch to build the lead back to 20 points.

Woods capped the scoring with seconds to play with a drive down the lane and spectacular dunk.
