Peck Claims Tournament Title To Open Fall

North Carolina junior Josh Peck won the singles title at the Gamecock Fall Invite Sunday in Columbia, S.C, beating top-seeded Adam Walton from Tennessee. The championship came in the first tournament of the fall for the UNC men's tennis team.
In the Flight A singles bracket, Peck opened with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Miami's Stephen Madonia. In the second round he beat ETSU's David Gonzalez 6-2, 6-1, then followed that with a third-round win over the Gamecocks' Yancy Dennis, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Peck beat another Vols player, Scott Jones, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, on Saturday to reach the final and face Walton, who is No. 82 in the current ITA rankings.
"Josh had a great tournament and a number of good wins," UNC coach Sam Paul said. "He worked hard all summer and it's great to see that pay off."
