BLACKSBURG, Va. – Despite an even block against Virginia Tech with six apiece, North Carolina dropped a three-set match to the Hokies on Friday evening on the road in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Mia Fradenburg, Casey Jacobs and Hunter Atherton each collected nine digs to ground UNC's defense while Ava Bell tacked on five blocks. Destiny Cox led the kill column with seven. However, Virginia Tech's Kaity Smith led all hitters with 16.
Despite back-to-back kills by Cox to begin the match, the Hokies quickly took a 12-4 lead. Four kills from Cox and three from Atherton were not enough to pace the Tar Heels to victory in the set. Carolina rallied through two set points, but ultimately the Hokies secured the 25-15 win to begin the match. Virginia Tech attacked at a .577 clip with a single hitting error in the frame.

The Tar Heels battled and went on a 5-1 run late in set two to bring the score within three, but was unable to come away with the win.
