HANAHAN, S.C. – The final holes of the first round of the Cougar Classic will have to wait as play was suspended due to rain at the Yeamans Hall Club. As a team, the Tar Heels have combined to shoot 10-over-par in their first round of the 2018.
Junior Brynn Walker and sophomore Ava Bergner led the way through the first round at the 72, 6,261-yard course. Both are currently at even par with Walker on the 16th green and Bergner on 18. In her first round as a Tar Heel, freshman Jennifer Zhou got off to a bit of a slow start with bogeys on four of the first six holes. She picked up a birdie on seven to help settle down and found her stride on the back nine with three birdies in the last seven holes to get into the club house before the rain with a 1-over, 73.
