Howell Again Named ACC QB Of The Week
October 21, 2019 | Football
GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina freshman Sam Howell has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference quarterback of the week for the third time this season after another outstanding performance last weekend.
The Indian Trail, N.C., product tied a school record with five touchdown passes in what turned out to be the longest football game in ACC history, a six-overtime thriller won by the Hokies, 43-41.
Howell went over 300 yards passing for the third time in the last four games, finishing the afternoon 26 of 49 for 348 yards and zero interceptions.
He previously earned player of the week honors after wins over South Carolina and Georgia Tech.
Howell leads all ACC signal callers with 20 touchdown passes and 1,892 yards through the air. The 20 touchdowns is already the UNC freshman record and the seventh most ever by a first-year quarterback in the conference.
Announced today, Carolina (3-4, 2-2 ACC) will host Virginia (5-2, 3-1) on Saturday, Nov. at 7:30 p.m. ET on ACC Network.
