Navy Takes A 3-2 Win In Game I Of Fall World Series

Chapel Hill, NC - Mikey Madej's run-scoring single to right in the bottom of the seventh and final inning broke a 2-2 tie and gave Navy a 3-2 win in the first game of the Fall World Series on Thursday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.
Navy took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Mikey Madej led off with a single and eventually scored on Will Stewart's sacrifice fly to left. The score stood at 1-0 until Blue scored two runs in the top of the sixth for a brief 2-1 lead. A Caleb Roberts double and Earl Semper's RBI-single, combined with two Navy errors, allowed Blue to score two runs.
Navy tied the score in the bottom of the sixth on a monstrous Aaron Sabato home run to left center. Kyle Blendinger then retired the side in order in the top of the seventh and final inning before Navy scored their game-winning run in the bottom of the inning. Dallas Tessar led off with a double down the left field line. Tessar then moved over to third on Will Schroeder's single to short right field. One out later, Mikey Madej ripped a single to right to drive in the game-winning run.
Michael Oh started for Navy and Davis Palermo got the start for Blue. Oh gave up no runs and just one hit while striking out five and walking none in 5.0 innings of work. Palermo gave up one run on two hits while striking out three in 4.0 innings. Kyle Blendinger picked up the win in relief while Andrew Grogan took the loss. Bennett Nance also saw action in relief.
The two teams will square off again in Game II of the Fall World Series on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m.
