Bailey Picked For Lisa Leslie Award Watch List
October 25, 2019 | Women's Basketball
Tar Heel junior Janelle Bailey has been selected as one of 20 top collegiate centers on the 2020 Lisa Leslie Award Watch List, announced Friday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association). It's the second year in a row that Bailey, a 6-4 center from Charlotte, N.C., has been part of the watch list.
Bailey recently was voted to the 2019-20 Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference team, also for the second year in a row. Last season as a sophomore, she was the ACC's top-scoring front court player, averaging 16.7 points and 8.7 rebounds. She earned second-team All-ACC honors and reached 1,000 career points in the season's final game.
New this year to the Lisa Leslie Award process is fan voting. Tar Heel fans can click here to vote for Bailey and help her advance to the next round.
The Lisa Leslie Award list will be narrowed to 10 candidates in mid-February. Five finalists will be announced in March, with the winner recognized at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show on April 10th. For more on the award click here.
