UNC Hosts Virginia Tech For ACC Home Opener

CHAPEL HILL – Following the Tar Heels' 3-2 victory at NC State Wednesday, North Carolina returns home to host Virginia Tech Sunday at 1 p.m. in Carmichael Arena for the ACC home opener. Following the match, the Tar Heels will sign autographs for fans in the concourse. Fans unable to attend can watch on the ACCNX.
Recently for the Tar Heels (4-9, 1-2 ACC)
UNC fell narrowly at Notre Dame and Louisville before coming from behind at NC State for the Tar Heels' first conference win of the year.
Posting five blocks in the fifth set alone, Carolina clinched its 3-2 comeback victory over NC State Wednesday in Reynolds Coliseum. After dropping the first set by the minimum, two points, the Tar Heels bounced back to take the second and third sets. UNC held the Wolfpack to a .000 attack percentage in the third set. NC State responded to take the fourth set and take an early lead in the fifth. However, Carolina showed its resiliency and earned its first five-set win of 2019.
The Tar Heels upped their season-best to 19.5 total blocks. It is the most blocks in a match since UNC had 21.5 vs. Wake Forest in 2017. Carolina reset its season-best from 15.0 blocks against Louisville on Sunday.
Skyy Howard more than doubled her single-match high to 11 total blocks – the most blocks by a Tar Heel this season. Lauren Harrison, Aristea Tontai, and Hunter Atherton posted five blocks individually. For the second consecutive match, Lauren Harrison set a new single-match best with 21 kills.

Looking for their first win since defeating Chattanooga, 3-2, on Sept. 20, the Hokies travel to the Triangle for a pair of matches, facing NC State Friday and North Carolina Sunday. Marisa Cerchio leads Virginia Tech offensively with 166 kills while Logan Mosley owns 258 digs to rank third in the ACC.
