UNC Hosts Charleston Southern Friday For Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The UNC women's basketball team will play its third game of the season and second of the week on Friday, hosting Charleston Southern for a 5 p.m. tipoff at Carmichael Arena.
UNC, under first-year head coach Courtney Banghart, has opened the season with wins over Western Carolina (92-55) and Navy (80-40). The Tar Heels are averaging 86 points per game and junior center Janelle Bailey is leading the team in scoring with 20.5 points per game.
The game kicks off a big night of basketball on the UNC campus, with the Tar Heel men also playing, hosting Gardner-Webb at 9 p.m. Fans who show a ticket to the UNC-GWU game can buy a ticket to the women's game for just $1.
It's also Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night. The first 100 UNC faculty and staff members can claim a $5 concessions vouchers by showing a One Card at the front entrance. (Faculty and staff are admitted free to all women's basketball games with a One Card.)
UNC leads the series 10-0. The last time the teams met, this year's seniors were freshmen. Four members of the current team saw action in the 93-77 win on Nov. 22, 2016: Taylor Koenen came off the bench for six points and six rebounds in 20 minutes. Olivia Smith also had six points in just seven minutes of play as she was 2-for-3 from three-point range. Emily Sullivan played 11 minutes and had two blocks to go with a point and two rebounds. Naomi Van Nes played four minutes and grabbed one rebound.
CSU coach Fred Applin, now in his eighth year at the Bucs' helm, is very familiar with the Tar Heels' home court, having served as an assistant coach at Carolina from 1989-93. His team has opened the season 0-2, falling at Florida State (88-36) and at home to South Carolina State 81-75 OT).
