CHAPEL HILL - The University of North Carolina football program signed 25 newcomers, including 12 early enrollees, on Wednesday as part of National Signing Day. Expected to be a Top-20 to Top-15 class, Carolina's group includes seven four stars and 18 three stars according to the 247Sports Composite and nine four stars and 14 three stars based on Rivals.com's rankings. The well-rounded class covers all position groups and focuses heavily on the trenches with five defensive linemen signing and four offensive linemen coming aboard. The 25-man group represents seven states including 14 players from North Carolina, five from Georgia, two from Florida, and one each from Arkansas, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia.
Â
Using the formula from head coach Mack Brown's first tenure in Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels focused on a talented group of in-state prospects to serve as the foundation for the 2020 signing class. Â
In addition to in-state four stars DL Desmond Evans, DL Myles Murphy, DL Kedrick Bingley-Jones, DB Ja'Qurious Conley and DB Cameron Roseman-Sinclair, the Tar Heels went to Georgia for four-star WR Josh Downs and over to Arkansas to secure fellow four-star QB Jacolby Criswell. Rivals.com also ranked in-state WR Ray Rose and Florida DL Clyde Pinder Jr. as four stars. In addition to Downs and Criswell, the Tar Heels secured Virginia's 12th-ranked player in Ethan West and South Carolina's 11th-ranked player in Tylee Craft.
Â
As a whole, the 2019 Carolina signing class includes three players invited to the All-American Bowl, two players selected for the Under Armour All-America game and nine players selected to the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. The group also includes seven state champions and 14 signees who earned all-state honors at some point during their prep careers.
Â

The Tar Heels are heading to their 34th bowl and their first since 2016. UNC placed 11 student-athletes on All-ACC teams including Offensive Rookie and Rookie of the Year Sam Howell and first-team linebacker Chazz Surratt.   Â
