CHAPEL HILL—The University of North Carolina men's tennis program has signed blue-chip student-athlete Adam Neff to join the Tar Heel team in the fall of 2020, head coach Sam Paul announced on Friday afternoon.
Neff has signed a National Letter of Intent to enroll at UNC beginning in the fall of 2020, joining Logan Zapp in the Tar Heel tennis class of 2024.
"We are very excited to welcome Adam to the University of North Carolina," Paul announced. "His work ethic and character will fit right in with our team culture. He has achieved top rankings in the USTA throughout his junior career, and we anticipate his continued development here will impact our program significantly. We look forward to working with both Adam throughout the next four years to maximize his academic, tennis and post-graduate career goals."
Neff is from Bradenton, Fla., and was rated Tennis Recruiting's No. 1 recruit throughout parts of 2011-17. His private coaches are Gerardo Martin Azcurra and Mike Wilson. Neff battled injuries the last two years but remained a top-12 ranked, Blue Chip recruit in 2019. Neff was twice named to the USA's Junior Davis Cup team, which is one of the top honors recognizing competitive excellence and sportsmanship.
Neff was ranked as high No. 116 in the ITF Junior World Rankings in singles and has won 5 ITF Doubles titles worldwide. He has competed in the Junior Australian Open and Junior U.S. Open. Neff is a former Easter Bowl singles champion, capturing gold balls in the Boys' 12s and 14s.
This past summer, Neff and future Tar Heel teammate Zapp represented the Florida section at the USTA Boys'18 Team National Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn.
"The amazing academics, integrity and big-time athletics were all things that I was looking for the in the recruiting process, and the Tar Heels are at the top of the list in all those categories," Neff explained. "I'm beyond excited to get to work with two amazing coaches in Coach Paul and Coach Tripp [Phillips], along with an amazing group of guys who all are working to bring a national championship to Carolina Tennis."
The Tar Heels will kick off their 2020 indoor season in January.
