CHAPEL HILL—The University of North Carolina men's tennis team has signed blue-chip student-athlete Logan Zapp to join the Tar Heel program in the fall of 2020, head coach Sam Paul announced on Friday.
Â
Zapp signed a National Letter of Intent to enroll at UNC beginning in the fall of 2020.Â
Â
"We are thrilled to welcome Logan to Carolina," Paul said. "He is a hard-working and very talented student-athlete who matches our program's culture well. He has done great things in his USTA junior career, and we think he will continue to improve here at UNC. We are looking forward to watching him develop on and off the court over the next four years."
Â
Zapp is a 6-3 native of Fleming Island, Fla., who is coached by former collegiate star Mark Arrowsmith. He is ranked No. 2 in the USTA Boys' 18s National Rankings and attends Fleming Island High School. He won the 2019 USTA National Clay Courts in Doubles and was a finalist in singles. Zapp is a Blue Chip recruit ranked No. 12 nationally by Tennis Recruiting.net.Â
Â
In the summer of 2019, Zapp collected his first three ATP Tour points while qualifying for the ITF Grade 1 event in Bradenton, Fla. Zapp also reached the singles finals of the ITF International Grass Court Championships. In Kalamazoo, Mich., Zapp notched three wins over top 20 USTA players while reaching the Boys' 18s Feed-in Semifinals.Â
Zapp was formerly ranked No. 1 in the USTA Boys' 16s National Rankings and was crowned champion in singles and doubles at the Boys' 16s National Clay Courts. Zapp was named 2018 Player of the Year in the state of Florida. He was also one of seven players chosen to represent the Florida section at the USTA Boys' 18 Team National Championships this summer, where he posted a 3-1 record playing No. 1 singles.
Â
"For me, Carolina was simply the best combination of academics and tennis in the country," Zapp said. "The family atmosphere made me feel very welcome.  I'm excited to continue to develop my game for a possible career in professional tennis and to earn a degree from one of the best schools in the world," Zapp noted.Â
Â
The Tar Heels will kick off their 2020 indoor season in January.
