ACC Announces Matchups For Next Three ACC Seasons
February 14, 2019 | Men's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL—The Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Thursday the future matchups of the league's 20-game men's basketball schedule, which begins with the 2019-20 season. The 20-game matrix is in effect for three years through the 2021-22 season.
Each team will play its two primary rivals every season both home and away (four games) and four repeat opponents both home and away (eight games). The remaining eight opponents will be single games, four at home and four on the road. The full cycle of repeat opponents will be complete following the third year.
As has been the case since the beginning of the ACC's unbalanced schedules that accompanied league expansion, North Carolina's two primary opponents each season remain Duke and North Carolina State. The Tar Heels will continue to play the Blue Devils and Wolfpack twice each season in home-and-home series.
In 2019-20, Carolina will play the following teams twice: Duke, NC State, Notre Dame, Pitt, Virginia and Wake Forest. The Tar Heels will play Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Miami at home and Florida State, Louisville, Syracuse and Virginia Tech on the road.
In 2020-21, UNC will face Duke, NCSU, Clemson, Florida State, Miami and Syracuse twice each while hosting Louisville, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels will play road games in 2020-21 at Boston College, Georgia Tech, Pitt and Virginia.
In 2021-22, Carolina's home-and-home slate includes Duke, NCSU, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Louisville and Virginia Tech while its home schedule will include Florida State, Pitt, Syracuse and Virginia. Conference road games in 2021-22 will include Clemson, Miami, Notre Dame and Wake Forest.
