Tar Heels Blank Northwestern, 5-0

CHAPEL HILL – After a four-hour delay, North Carolina shutout Northwestern, 5-0 on the second day of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge to improve to 2-1 on the weekend.
Following two scoreless innings, the Tar Heels plated one run in the third and two runs each in the fourth and sixth to secure the five-run shutout victory over Northwestern. Brittany Pickett anchored North Carolina, striking out seven with a mere two walks. Freshman Hannah George plated three runs while Kiani Ramsey went 3-for-4 to lead Carolina's offense.
UNC improves to 4-3 on the season while the Wildcats fall to 6-2.

» Destiny DeBerry singled, out on FC that put Leah Murray on first. Stole second. Kiani Ramsey singled but a Northwestern miscue allowed Murray to come home for a 1-0 lead.
» Brittany Pickett retired the Wildcats in order on a nine-pitch third inning.
» After a walk and a Northwestern miscue, Hannah George slugged a two-run double to the center field warning track to extend Carolina's lead to three.
» Northwestern's Skyler Shellmyer sent a two-out double to the left-center warning track in the bottom of the seventh. However, Berlynne Delamora made a diving grab at third to hold off the Wildcats.
