Carolina Continues Reign At No. 1

Carolina continues its reign as the No. 1 ranked women's tennis team in the nation according to the latest Oracle ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings released on Tuesday.
North Carolina has won 10 successive dual matches since suffering its only setback of the season to No. 2 Georgia in the finals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships back on Feb. 12 in Seattle. The Tar Heels own an unblemished 7-0 mark against the Atlantic Coast Conference and are 19-1 thus far in 2019.
UNC has wins this spring over No. 3 Duke twice, No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 8 Oklahoma State, No. 9 UCLA, No. 12 NC State, No. 22 Virginia and No. 24 Michigan.
Junior Alexa Graham moves up four spots to No. 3 nationally in singles, the best ranking of her collegiate career. The Garden City, New York, native is a perfect 14-0 this spring in dual matches and 25-3 overall.
Makenna Jones remains No. 5, while Sara Daavettila moves back into the top 10 at No. 9. Jones has won four-straight matches to run her record to 18-6 overall and 3-1 against the ACC. Meanwhile, Daavettila, earned a win over No. 19 Meible Chi of Duke recently and is also 18-6 overall, 3-2 versus the league.
Freshman standout Cameron Morra, already a three-time ACC Freshman of the Week honoree, is No. 25 thanks to a 4-1 mark in the conference and a 17-7 overall slate.
Carolina is the only program to boast two ranked singles players in the top-5, three in the top-10 and four in the top-25.
Doubles is just as strong with two duos among the top-10. Jones and Morra are No. 3 thanks to a 19-2 overall record and 3-0 league record, while Aney and Graham are No. 8 behind a perfect 12-0 mark this spring, 6-0 versus the league.
North Carolina hosts No. 25 Miami on Sunday at 10 a.m. The Hurricanes lineup features second-ranked singles player Estela Perez-Somarriba.
