Tar Heels Close Out Regular Season With Win Over Cardinals

The ninth-ranked North Carolina men's tennis team wrapped up the regular season Sunday with an Atlantic Coast Conference road win, 4-0 at Louisville. The Tar Heels (17-5 overall, 9-3 ACC) won the doubles point and then grabbed singles wins on Courts 1, 2 and 5 to claim the victory. Louisville fell to 15-12 overall and 3-9 in ACC play.

Sunday on the indoor courts at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center, UNC took the doubles point with wins on Court 1 and Court 3. On three, sophomore Mac Kiger and junior Simon Soendergaard won 6-2, then freshman Brian Cernoch and sophomore Benjamin Sigouin closed out with the same score on Court 1.
In singles, Sigouin played at the top spot and quickly wrapped up a win over Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff, 6-4, 6-2. He was one of five Tar Heels to win first sets, and junior Josh Peck, playing on Court 2, was another. Peck was next to finish off, beating Brandon Lancaster 6-2, 6-2.
Soendergaard earning the clinching win, on Court 5, where he beat Federico Gomez 6-2, 7-5.
Both Cernoch on Court 3 and senior Blaine Boyden on Court 4 won tiebreakers to claim their first sets and were early in the second sets when the match finished.
Junior Ladd Harrison played on Court 6, making his second ACC appearance of the season. He fell 7-5 in the first set and trailed 3-2 in the second when play was suspended.
