Johnson Receives MVP Honor At Awards Ceremony

Maye, Johnson and Williams Named Permanent Captains
Cameron Johnson, a graduate student from Moon Township, Pa., was named the winner of the Dean Smith Most Valuable Player Award Wednesday evening at the University of North Carolina men's basketball team's 2018-19 awards ceremony.
Johnson led the team in scoring at 16.9 points per game, made 96 three-pointers – second most in UNC history – and led the ACC in three-point shooting at 45.7 percent. The 6-9 shooting guard was the only player in the top 10 in the ACC in field goal, three-point and free throw percentages, and was UNC's second leading rebounder at 5.8 per game.
Carolina went 29-7 this season, winning a share of the ACC regular-season title with a 16-2 mark. The Tar Heels were ranked No. 3 in the final AP poll and earned a No. 1 seed for an NCAA-record 17th time in the NCAA Midwest Regional.
Johnson was also named one of Carolina's permanent team captains with seniors Kenny Williams and Luke Maye.
Williams was the winner of the Marvin Williams Carolina Way Award. Maye, a two-time Academic All-America and ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in men's basketball, was the recipient of the Tyler Zeller Scholar-Athlete Award.
Sophomore forward Garrison Brooks won the George Lynch Defensive Player of the Year Award and the Danny Green Most Improved Player Award.
