North Carolina's Blaine Boyden and William Blumberg have been honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the ACC.
Boyden, a senior from Raleigh, and Blumberg, a junior from Greenwich, Conn., went 2-0 last week at No. 1 doubles and are 11-2 overall this spring. Last Wednesday, they beat #61 Borna Gojo and Alan Gadjiev of Wake Forest 6-4 to clinch the doubles point in Winston-Salem, in a match eventually won 5-2 by third-ranked WFU. On Sunday against No. 26 FSU, they again decided the doubles point, beating Sebastian Arcila and Alex Knaff 6-3 en route to a 6-1 homecourt win by the Tar Heels.
Wake Forest's Gojo was named the ACC Singles Player of the Week.
Blumberg and Boyden moved up 19 spots to #34 in this week's ITA doubles rankings.
They'll lead the No. 11 Tar Heels (13-4, 5-2 ACC) back into action on Wednesday, when UNC hosts No. 21 NC State at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The match will begin at 4 p.m. – please note change from original time of 3 p.m.
There will be free food for fans beginning right after the doubles point and two lucky fans will win premium seatback stadium cushions.
