Carolina Bound for Knoxville in 15th NCAA Regional Appearance

INDIANAPOLIS – Continuing the Tar Heels' historic season, North Carolina received an at-large bid for the 2019 NCAA Tournament and will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee, on May 17-19 for NCAA Regionals.

Tennessee receives the No. 12 overall seed for the NCAA Tournament and will play host to Ohio State and Big South champion Longwood in addition to the Heels. UNC will open the double-elimination weekend on Friday, May 17, at 11 a.m. against Ohio State on ESPN2.

UNC makes its 15th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and fourth in the past five years. Carolina (35-18) finished second in the ACC Coastal and advanced to the ACC Championship game on Saturday, but fell to No. 5 Florida State. Totaling five ACC teams, the Seminoles received the No. 4 overall seed for the NCAA Tournament, while Notre Dame travels to No. 1-seed Oklahoma, Virginia Tech travels to No. 14-seed Kentucky and Louisville heads to No. 16-seed Northwestern.

The winner of the Knoxville Regional will advance to face the winner of #5-seed Florida's region, which includes Boston U., Stanford and Boise State, in a three-game series for Super Regionals. The eight Super Regional winners will head to Oklahoma City for the Women's College World Series.

Carolina faced 13 of the 64-team field in 2019, including national seeds #3 Washington, #4 Florida State, #12 Tennessee, #14 Kentucky, #15 Michigan and #16 Northwestern.
