CHARLOTTE—Combine Academy, an international boarding high school and sports performance center located just outside of Charlotte in Lincolnton, N.C., has hired former Tar Heel point guard Jeff McInnis as its national head basketball coach, the school announced on Wednesday.
Â
McInnis played for the Tar Heels from 1993-96. After his college tenure, McInnis was selected in the second round of the 1996 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets and played 12 years in the NBA.Â
Â
Upon his retirement, McInnis founded Team Charlotte, a successful AAU organization, in 2009. He has led Team Charlotte for nearly a decade and was named the 17U National Coach of the Year in 2015.Â
Â
"I am extremely excited for this new opportunity with Combine Academy," McInnis said. "I look forward to developing and enhancing both the Combine Academy basketball program and its dedicated players on and off the court."
Â
McInnis was a two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference pick at Carolina, leading the Tar Heels to the NCAA Final Four in 1995 alongside teammates Rasheed Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse, Donald Williams and Dante Calabria. He scored 1,128 career points during his three-year career before joining the professional ranks.
 Â
"Jeff has been an invaluable leader and mentor to some of the nation's most talented student-athletes," Combine Academy president Jonah Baize said. We look forward to him bringing his experience, network, and most importantly passion, to our rapidly growing organization."Â
