June 14, 2019 | Men's Basketball
OAKLAND, Calif. – Former North Carolina NCAA champion Danny Green became an NBA champ for a second time on Thursday night when the Toronto Raptors won, 114-110, at Golden State in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals. It's the first title for the Raptors franchise.
Green previously won an NBA title with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014 and a college national championship with Tyler Hansbrough, Wayne Ellington, Ty Lawson, Deon Thompson and the 2009 Tar Heels.
Green, Michael Jordan and James Worthy are the only Carolina players with both an NCAA and NBA title.
Green and Mitch Kupchak, who won titles with both the Washington Bullets and Los Angeles Lakers as a player, are the only Tar Heels with an NBA title with multiple teams.
Including Green, former Tar Heels have won 34 NBA championships as players, most among Atlantic Coast Conference teams by a wide margin. That list includes Michael Jordan (six), James Worthy, Kupchak, Scott Williams and Rick Fox (three each) and Green, Bob McAdoo, Kenny Smith and James Michael McAdoo (two each).
Green started 80 regular season contests and all 24 playoff games for Toronto in 2018-19, including the decisive Game 6. He averaged 10.3 points per game in the regular season.
