Pineda Named To MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

KANSAS CITY, MO. -- North Carolina senior midfielder Mauricio Pineda has been named to the 2019 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List, announced by United Soccer Coaches on Thursday afternoon. Presented by World Wide Technology, the MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year.
A total of 36 men's players were selected to this years watch list with the winner being announced in early January at the Missouri Athletic club in St. Louis.
Pineda, a native of Bolingbrooke, Illinois, is a three-year starter for the Tar Heels who was helped the Heels to the NCAA Men's College Cup in two of the last three seasons. A United Soccer Coaches second-team All-American and first-team All-ACC player in 2018, Pineda has started 57 of 62 games he's featured in and has recorded 12 goals and 6 assists from the midfield.

The MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists are compiled by members of the United Soccer Coaches Men's and Women's NCAA Division I All-America Committees. Fifteen semifinalists will be named for both the men's and women's MAC Hermann Trophy near the end of the college season based on voting by NCAA Division I coaches and from those candidates, three finalists will ultimately be placed on the ballot for the coveted award.
