Carolina Adds Alcohol Sales At Kenan Stadium For 2019 Season

Â
Dear Tar Heel Fans,
Â
We wanted you to be the first to know that, after much research, consideration and consultation with University leadership, we will serve beer and wine during football games this season, beginning with our September 7 home opener against Miami.
Â
Operational details are still being finalized with priorities on safety, control and training. We will offer beer and wine at 20 concessions locations at Kenan Stadium. No alcohol will be allowed in the student section, and we will closely monitor sales and the impact on our gameday atmosphere. Per the state law that was passed in June, only one alcoholic beverage per customer will be allowed per transaction. For the season opener, beer and wine sales will begin 90 minutes before kickoff and end at the beginning of the third quarter.
Â
Proceeds generated by sales will go to the University to benefit the Carolina Covenant, the Faculty Excellence Program and an alcohol education program in coordination with the Office of Student Affairs. We still are considering whether alcohol will be served at other Carolina sporting events and venues this year.
Â
Permitting the sale of alcohol in college stadiums has become much more prevalent across the country over the last few years, including during NCAA championships and ACC tournaments. In recent seasons, many of you have expressed strong interest in having beer and wine sold at games, and the change in law allows us to move forward with this effort alongside many of our fellow state schools.
Â
We know that there will be many different perspectives about this decision, and we believe this is another step in enhancing Carolina's gameday experience for you.
Â
More information will be available soon at CarolinaGameDay.com and on the GoHeels app.
Â
Thank you for your support of Carolina Athletics. Looking forward to a great year!
Â
Go Heels!
Â
Sincerely,
Â
Bubba Cunningham
