Chapel Hill -- North Carolina senior Mauricio Pineda and freshman Blake Malone were both named to TopDrawerSoccer's Preseason Best XI teams, announced Tuesday morning. Pineda was named as a midfielder to the first-team while Malone was named as a defender on the all-freshman team.

A second-team United Soccer Coaches All-American last year, Pineda comes in to his senior year as the captain of the Tar Heels. A three-time All-ACC member, Pineda has recorded 12 goals and six assists from the midfield in the last three years as he looks to lead Carolina to three NCAA College Cups in four seasons.

Malone, a freshman from Las Vegas, is the No. 2 ranked defender in the 2019 class by TopDrawerSoccer. A member of the U19 U.S. National Team, he captained the Seattle Sounders Academy team last season while also being named a United Soccer Coaches All-American in 2018.

Carolina will be opening its season on Friday, Aug. 30 against Creighton at 7:30 p.m. in its new, on-campus soccer stadium.
