ACC Announces 2019-20 Men's Basketball Schedule
September 12, 2019 | Men's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL – The University of North Carolina men's basketball team begins the 2019-20 regular-season schedule on Nov. 6 at home against Notre Dame, marking the first time the Tar Heels have opened with an Atlantic Coast Conference game since playing Clemson to start the 1966-67 season.
Â
The UNC-Notre Dame game is the first of 20 ACC contests. This is the first season in which the league's 15 teams will play 20 conference games after seven seasons with an 18-game league schedule.
Â
The Irish are one of six ACC opponents the Tar Heels play twice this season, along with Duke, NC State, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest and Virginia.
Â
UNC travels to Charlottesville, Va., to play the 2019 NCAA champion Cavaliers on either Friday, Dec. 6 or Saturday, Dec. 7. This is the first time since the 1968-69 season Carolina will play two conference games before the end of December.
Â
The Tar Heels will play home games only against four ACC schools (Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Miami) and away games only against four other ACC teams (Florida State, Louisville, Syracuse and Virginia Tech).
Â
The 2020 ACC Tournament is March 10-14 in Greensboro.
Â
Carolina kicks off the season with Late Night with Roy at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, at the Smith Center. The Tar Heels will play host to Winston-Salem State in an exhibition game on Friday, Nov. 1.
Â
After the regular-season opener against Notre Dame, Carolina plays 11 of its next 12 games against non-conference competition, beginning on Nov. 8 when the Tar Heels make their first visit to UNCW.
Â
Following a Nov. 15 home game against Gardner-Webb, the Tar Heels begin play in the Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis with a Nov. 20 game in Chapel Hill against Elon. The next three games are at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.
Â
Carolina plays Alabama in the first game at Atlantis at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27. UNC will face either Iowa State or Michigan on Thanksgiving and either Gonzaga, Oregon, Seton Hall or Southern Mississippi on Nov. 29.
Â
On Dec. 4, UNC plays host to Ohio State in the 21st ACC-Big Ten Challenge. The Tar Heels are 2-0 against the Buckeyes in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, winning in Chapel Hill in 2006 and in Columbus, Ohio, a season later.
Â
Carolina is off for an eight-day exam break following the ACC road opener in Charlottesville, returning to action vs. Wofford at Carmichael Arena on Sunday, Dec. 15. This will be the first regular-season game for UNC men's basketball in Carmichael since a 90-79 win over NC State on Jan. 4, 1986.
Â
Carolina heads west for a two-game swing at Gonzaga (Dec. 18) and in Las Vegas (Dec. 21) for the CBS Sports Classic vs. UCLA. The regular-season, non-conference slate concludes at home on Dec. 30 against Yale.
Â
Nineteen of Carolina's 20 regular-season ACC games will be televised nationally by an ESPN channel, including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or the ACC Network.
Â
Times and broadcast details for a number of the non-conference games will be announced in the next few weeks.
Â
Tickets in the 2019-2020 "Men's Basketball Tar Heel Pack" are now available for purchase. This package includes a ticket for every home game except Wofford and Duke. Seats will be assigned at the end of September using the Rams Club priority point system or the order date for non-Rams Club members. Pricing will be determined by seat location.
