Tar Heels Host VCU, Colgate, Radford for Carolina Classic

CHAPEL HILL –  Hosting the Carolina Classic for the third consecutive season and eighth time in the past 10 seasons, the Tar Heels return home from Michigan to host VCU, Colgate and Radford Friday and Saturday in Carmichael Arena for the final non-conference matches before beginning ACC play.

Friday, September 20
    3:30 p.m.        Radford vs. Colgate
    6:30 p.m.        North Carolina vs. VCU (ACCNX)
Saturday, September 21
    10 a.m.           VCU vs. Radford
    Noon              North Carolina vs. Colgate (ACCNX)
    4:30 p.m.        Colgate vs. VCU Â
    6:30 p.m.        North Carolina vs. Radford (ACCNX)
Admission is free to Carmichael Arena. Prior to 5 p.m. Friday, parking is recommended in the Rams Head Deck. After 5 p.m., fans can park on Stadium Drive, Bell Tower Deck, Cobb Deck and Bosh Lot. On Saturday, parking is recommended at the Manning Lot for all matches. Live stats are available for all matches at UNClivestats.com. Fans can watch each match vs. North Carolina live on ACCNX.

Recently for the Tar Heels (1-6)
Carolina returns home from Michigan after dropping a pair of matches to Miami (Ohio) and Michigan State. The Tar Heels out-block their opponents at a rate of 2.26 to 1.74 blocks per set, highlighted by a season-best of 13.0 vs. Miami (Ohio).

About VCU (6-5)
Series: UNC leads, 7-0 (UNC won, 3-0 on Sept. 13, 2014 in Chapel Hill, N.C.)
Returning to Chapel Hill for the first time since 2014, VCU wraps up a six-match roadtrip at the Carolina Classic. The Rams own wins over Power Five opponents, NC State, Alabama and Virginia Tech earlier this month. Vicky Giommarini and Gina Tuzzolo lead the Rams offensively, each with over 100 kills.

About Colgate (6-3)
Series: first meeting
Following their 2019 home opener, the Raiders make their first trip in program history to Chapel Hill for the Carolina Classic. Colgate swept Quinnipiac on Friday but dropped both matches Saturday at home. The Patriot League's player of the week on Sept. 3, Alli Lowe leads the Raiders' offense with 4.06 kills per set.

Series: first meeting
After competing at Temple's Hilton Philadelphia at Penn's Landing Cherry & White Challenge, Radford continues its seven-match road trip at the Carolina Classic - marking the program's first trip to Chapel Hill. Most recently in the win column, the Highlanders swept Lehigh behind Stephanie Neast's 13 kills.
