Cernoch Will Go For Third Place Sunday; Hijikata Advances To Final

Columbia, S.C.—Fourth-seeded Brian Cernoch dropped his semifinal match at the Gamecock Fall Invitational to second-seeded Daniel Rodrigues of South Carolina but will try for third place on Sunday when he faces third-seeded Flip Malbasic of Arizona.
Meanwhile in Arkansas, freshman Rinky Hijikata advanced into his first ITF Pro Circuit singles final with a 6-1, 6-2 2-0 (ret.) decision over Niki Takuto of Japan. Hijikata will face Nick Chappell in Sunday's final on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
Seeded fourth in his flight, Cernoch had won a pair of matches on Friday, opening play with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 win over Matthew Thomson and a 7-6 (0), 6-1 win over Benjamin Hannestad of Miami in the quarterfinals.
Josh Peck also was seeded fourth in his flight in Columbia and split a pair of matches on Friday. He will meet Alejandro Requant-Bicardi of Arizona on Sunday. Simon Soendergaard is scheduled to meet Nick Lagaev of Arizona on Sunday.
The doubles duo of Cernoch & Peck split two 8-4 decisions on Saturday.
