Tips To Beat The Heat At Saturday's Game
September 27, 2019 | Football
CHAPEL HILL—Carolina football plays host to Clemson Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Kenan Stadium. The game is sold out.
Â
Weather forecasts for Saturday predict a heat index in the mid-90s.
Â
If you are coming to the game, please take proper precautions to guard against overheating. This includes drinking water prior to kickoff and wearing breathable and light-color clothes, particularly for fans seated on the north side of the stadium.
Â
Additional safety tips include:
- protect yourself from the sun by wearing a hat (sunglasses and sunscreen—SPF 30 or higher—are also recommended);
- stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water before, during and after the game;
- avoid excessive consumption of alcohol;
- immediately seek assistance of an usher, law enforcement officer, Show Pros safety officer or other game day staff or on-site medical personnel. Fans may text concerns to (919) 887-9910;
- stand or sit up slowly. Flex leg muscles before moving.
Â
Signs and symptoms of heat-related illness include headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, weakness, malaise, mood change, mental confusion or irritability, nausea or vomiting, rapid pulse and excessive sweating.
Our event management staff and emergency medical services will be on heightened alert to help fans who may need assistance. Â
Â
Emergency medical services provided by the South Orange Rescue Squad are available by walking into the north side treatment center near Gate 2, the south side treatment center near Gate 6, or by asking a Game Day Staff member for assistance.
Â
To help with heat management, fans should pay attention to the following information about water and water bottles:
Water Bottles - Two 20-oz. or less bottled waters (sealed and unopened) are permitted per individual. Fans also may bring an empty plastic water bottle to be refilled inside the stadium;
Water Refills – "Water Monsters" are located near Section 100, near Gate 2, near Gate 3, near Gate 5 and near Section 131 for fans to refill water bottles. Misting fans and cooling towels will also be available at these locations.
Â
We encourage fans to arrive early and take advantage of "early bird" concessions which feature discounted food and drinks up until 45 minutes before kickoff at the Gate 2 and Gate 6 concession stands. Â Students have discounted concessions available to them throughout the game in the west end zone.
Â
Carolina Athletics and the University of North Carolina are looking forward to a safe and enjoyable football Saturday. "Be The One" to enjoy the game responsibly by being well-rested, hydrated and prepared for Game Day.
