
Three Earn ACC Player Of The Week Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. - After the season-opening comeback victory over South Carolina, the North Carolina football team had three players named an ACC Player of the Week on Tuesday. Quarterback Sam Howell was selected rookie of the week, senior left tackle Charlie Heck the offensive lineman of the week and junior safety Myles Wolfolk as the defensive back of the week.
Howell became the first true freshman quarterback to ever start the season-opening game for the Tar Heels. The Monroe, N.C., product completed 15-of-24 passes for 245 yards and two TDs. He orchestrated consecutive 90+ yard fourth-quarter drives to register the 24-20 comeback win over the Gamecocks.Â
Heck had six knockdowns, allowed zero sacks and had zero missed assignments last Saturday. The Tar Heels put up 483 yards of total offense (245 passing, 238 rushing) against the Gamecocks. Heck also had a key fumble recovery that extended a drive that turned into a field goal.
Wolfolk came up with two fourth-quarter interceptions to help ice the win over South Carolina. He had six tackles, and graded out at 91.9 according to Pro Football Focus, the highest figure from the Tar Heel defense.
