Gray, Johnson Named Preseason All-America

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –– Junior attackman Chris Gray and sophomore goalkeeper Caton Johnson have earned Inside Lacrosse's Preseason Media All-America recognition as announced by the magazine on Tuesday.
Gray, a junior transfer from Boston University, has been named to the first-team preseason All-American unit as an attackman. A native of Wading River, N.Y., Gray announced his decision to come to Carolina in June.
At Boston, Gray racked up a number of accolades. Twice on the Tewaaraton Watch List and a 2019 Tewaaraton nominee, Gray was named first-team freshman All-America in 2018 by Inside Lacrosse media and was moved up from honorable mention overall to first-team in 2019. As a USILA All-America, he was honorable mention as a freshman and second team as a sophomore. Gray earned first-team All-Patriot League honors both seasons and was also named to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team both years.
Gray tallied a Patriot League record, 111 points as a sophomore, leading the NCAA in the process. He scored 49 goals and was second in the country with 62 assists. Gray tallied at least three points in 17 games and has at least five points in 15 games. As a freshman, he had 30 goals and 41 assists for the Terriers while starting 15 games. At the time, the 40 assists and 71 points were program records for a single season.
Johnson, a sophomore from Lancaster, Pa., garnered honorable mention preseason All-America honors as a goalkeeper.
The 2019 ACC Freshman of the Year played in nine games and started six, making a team-high 81 saves. In a late-season win over Duke, Johnson made the most saves (21) in a game by a North Carolina men's lacrosse true freshman goalkeeper in school history.
