Heels Hold Their First Scrimmage Of The Spring

Chapel Hill, NC -- The Navy squad jumped out to an 8-1 lead then held on for an 8-5 win as the Tar Heels went six innings in their first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.
Navy picked up three runs in the top of the first as Danny Serretti scored on a wild pitch, then Patrick Alvarez and Eric Grintz had run-scoring singles. Serretti then doubled in the second to drive in a run before Dallas Tessar's two-run homer in the third gave Navy a 6-1 lead. Navy tacked on two more runs in the fourth when Mikey Madej scored on a passed ball, and Caleb Roberts hit a sacrifice fly.
Blue scored its first run in the second on Kyle Smith's RBI single. Blue then rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Aaron Sabato drilled a two-run homer before Will Stewart drove in a run with a single. Stewart would score the final run of the scrimmage on an error.
Eric Grintz was the only player with multiple base hits, going 2-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Serretti's double and Tessar and Sabato's homers were the only extra base hits.
Max Alba got the start for Navy with Shawn Rapp, Andrew Grogan and Nick James throwing in relief. Will Sandy started for Blue with Kyle Blendinger, Caden O'Brien and Austin Elliott throwing in relief.
The Tar Heels will hold their next scrimmage on Sunday afternoon.
