Ezeudu, Howell Earn All-ACC Academic Honor

Two Tar Heels have earned spots on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Football Team, recognizing outstanding academic and athletic performance during the 2019 season. Freshman Sam Howell and sophomore Joshua Ezeudu were among those recognized on Thursday by the league.

Ezeudu, an offensive lineman from Lawrenceville, Ga., is majoring in sport administration. As a sophomore in 2019, he started seven games at left guard and played in all 13 as the Tar Heels went 7-6 and capped the season with a victory over Temple in the Military Bowl. Ezeudu finished the year allowing just one sack and one pressure, while producing 26 knockdown blocks. He finished the year earning his highest grade of the season in the bowl game versus Temple

Howell, a quarterback from Indian Trail, N.C., is also a sport administration major. As a freshman, he was named the ACC Rookie of the Year after throwing 38 touchdown passes, a record for FBS true freshmen. He was named to the Football Writers Association of America-Shaun Alexander Freshman All-America Team and was the first freshman to be named MVP of the Military Bowl.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Academic Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
