TAR HEELS AND EAGLES
• North Carolina and Boston College take to the football field for the first time in seven seasons on Saturday, Oct. 3 in Chestnut Hill, Mass., for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff from Alumni Stadium.Â
• After an unplanned, two-week break, the Tar Heels return to action for the first time since a season-opening 31-6 victory at home over ACC foe Syracuse. It was UNC's first win over the Orange since 2002, and the Tar Heels opened a season with an ACC victory for the first time since beating Clemson 45-0 in 1996.
• Boston College rallied from 14-points down to beat visiting Texas State, 24-21, this past Saturday in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
• The last meeting between the two clubs resulted in a 34-10 Tar Heel home victory in 2013. Bryn Renner tossed a pair of touchdowns in the win.Â
• UNC went on the road for a 31-13 victory in 2009 in the only previous meeting between the two teams at Alumni Stadium.
• A third game was played in the Boston area at Foxboro in 1984. An Eagles' squad led by Doug Flutie earned a convincing 52-20 victory with Flutie throwing for 358 yards and six TDs.
CAROLINA IN THE POLLS
• Carolina slipped one spot to No. 12 in the Associated Press poll this week, while the Tar Heels moved up one spot to No. 11 in the Amway Coaches Poll.
BROWN VS. BOSTON COLLEGE
• Mack Brown has never faced Boston College in his 32-year career as a collegiate head coach.
WESTERN CAROLINA ADDED TO SCHEDULE
Carolina added Western Carolina to its 2020 schedule and the two in-state rivals will play on Friday, Dec. 11 in Chapel Hill. The game fills a hole in the schedule after the Sept. 19 game with Charlotte was canceled due to the impact of COVID-19 contact tracing after several members of the 49ers were placed in quarantine leading up to the game.
UP NEXT
• Carolina is scheduled to host Virginia Tech on Saturday, Oct. 10 at noon ET on ABC.
