October 15, 2020 | Women's Soccer
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – On a rainy, chilly night in upstate New York, Talia Dellaperuta and Libby Moore each recorded their first career goal in UNC's 2-0 win over Syracuse on Thursday.
North Carolina's attack peppered Syracuse's goalkeeper from the opening whistle and recorded five shots in the first eleven minutes, highlighted by a header attempt by Brianna Pinto that was blocked in the sixth minute.
The Tar Heels found the back of the net in the 20th minute when Dellaperuta collected Rachel Jones' shot off of the right post and finished it for her first career goal.
Sam Meza's shot in the 29th minute was struck well but was saved by the Syracuse goalkeeper. Hallie Klanke and Izzy Brown each had terrific chances in the first half.
After collecting a pass from Aleigh Gambone and taking a couple of touches to her right, Libby Moore put the Tar Heels up 2-0 in the 43rd minute.
At the half, North Carolina led Syracuse in shots 16-1 and had collected nine shots on goal. Meza led the way with four first-half shots, while Pinto and Rachel Jones entered the break with two.
North Carolina continued to apply pressure early in the second half. Rachel Jones was inches away from putting the Tar Heels up by three but her attempt was tapped over the crossbar by the goalkeeper at the 48thminute.
Pinto put another shot on goal midway through the second half from point-blank range, but her attempt was saved. UNC continue to have chances throughout the entire night but could not find a way to push its advantage past 2-0.
The Tar Heels back line was once again impressive, allowing just one Syracuse shot. Dickey recorded her fourth-straight clean sheet.
North Carolina has not allowed a goal in 416 minutes of game action, dating back to the first half against Wake Forest.
The Tar Heels continue their road swing at Boston College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
