Inside the Numbers (ITN) is a new feature that can be found exclusively on GoHeels.com each week following a Carolina football game. Here you will find interesting news and numbers focused around the Tar Heels on the gridiron.
PFF PERFORMERS
• According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Javonte Williams (79.7) and Storm Duck (80.6) graded out as the best offensive and defensive players, respectively, against Boston College this past Saturday afternoon.
• Williams graded out as the 11th best running back across college football this past week. Meanwhile, Duck ranked seventh among all defensive backs.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
• Carolina moved up four spots to No. 8 in the Associated Press poll this week, while the Tar Heels edged forward two places to No. 9 in the Amway Coaches Poll.
• UNC last played as the No. 8 team in the 2015 ACC Championship game against top ranked Clemson.Â
• Carolina is one of five teams from the ACC ranked this week in the AP Top 25, and for the first time ever the league has four teams inside the top 10 - Clemson (1), Notre Dame (5), Miami (7) and North Carolina (8).
ACC LEADERS
• Carolina has allowed an ACC low 54.5 rushing yards per game. Syracuse was limited to 68 yards on the ground, and last Saturday Boston College only mustered 40 yards.
• Javonte Williams tops the conference with five touchdowns and is averaging 15.0 points per game.Â
• Tomon Fox is second in the league with 2.25 tackles for loss per game.
• Chazz Surratt is tied for the conference lead with 1.5 sacks per game and is sixth with 8.5 tackles a game.Â
• Michael Carter is third in the ACC with 152.5 all-purpose yards and fourth with 99.5 rushing yards per game.
• Dazz Newsome sits third with an average of 13.1 punt return yards per attempt.Â
ACTIVE CAREER WINS LEADERS
• With 253 career victories, Mack Brown has produced the most wins of any active coach in the nation. He is trailed by Nick Saban at Alabama (244), Brian Kelly at Notre Dame (241), Willie Fritz at Tulane (176), and Gary Patterson at TCU (173). Brown's 253 wins rank ninth on the NCAA all-time list for coaches with at least 10 years at an FBS institution. He has won 158 games at Texas, 78 at UNC, 11 at Tulane and six at Appalachian State.

• UNC has begun a season with back-to-back victories over ACC opponents for the first time in program history.
• Carolina is also 2-0 for the first time in successive seasons for the first time since 2008 and 2009.Â
• The Tar Heels 28 points surrendered through their first two games are the fewest allowed in their first two games against Power 5 teams since holding Indiana and Stanford to 23 total points to open the 1997 campaign.
FIVE WINS IN A ROW
• Carolina has now won its last five games going back to the 2019 campaign, marking the longest winning streak for the program since 2015 when that squad put together a team-record 11-game stretch that culminated in the ACC Championship.
• In the five games, opponents are averaging only 11.6 points and 268.2 yards of offense.
FIRST CAREER TOUCHDOWN
Redshirt freshman wide receiver Khafre Brown hauled in his first career touchdown on the opening drive of the game. The Tar Heels have scored a TD on both opening drives thus far in 2020. UNC did that only four times in 13 games last season.
400 YARDS OF OFFENSE
Carolina has accumulated more than 400 yards of total offense in 10 consecutive games dating back to the 2019 season. The Heels extended that streak with 401 yards last Saturday in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
