CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina men's lacrosse team has named five captains for the upcoming season. Justin Anderson, Chris Gray, Cam Macri, Sean Morris and William Perry have been voted by their teammates as team captains for 2020-21.
Anderson, Macri and Perry were slated to serve as captains for 2020 and are returning for a fifth year after the cancellation of the majority of what would have been their senior season. Gray and Morris will join them this season as captains.
"It was a tough way to end a promising season at 7-0 in early March, but I'm thrilled to have the three captains from 2020 return in Justin, Will and Cam," UNC coach Joe Breschi said. "With the addition of Chris and Sean, voted on by their peers, it will allow us to have more voices in the locker room, off the field and at each position in practice and on gameday."
Anderson, a midfielder from Las Vegas, is in his third year as part of the captaincy group. A starter in each of the past four seasons, he had 15 goals and seven assists in the shortened 2020 season.
Gray, an attackman from Wading River, N.Y., led UNC with 27 goals and 17 assists in just seven games last season, his first at UNC after transferring from Boston University.
Macri, a defenseman from Hamilton, Mass., earned a starting spot for the 2020 season and was in the lineup for all seven games.
Morris, a defenseman from Stamford, Conn., played in all seven games last season on the defense.
Perry, a midfielder from Greenwich, Conn., had eight goals and four assists in 2020. He has started games in each of the past four seasons and has been among the team's scoring leaders each year.
Both Gray and Perry were selected to the final 2020 Tewaaraton Award Watch List.
The Tar Heels finished the shortened spring season ranked fifth nationally with a 7-0 record. It marked the sixth time in program history that Carolina had opened with seven consecutive wins.
