No. 8 Men's Lacrosse Defeats Jacksonville In Season Opener, 11-10

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Mason Szewczyk's go-ahead goal with just over two minutes remaining propelled the eighth-ranked North Carolina men's lacrosse team over Jacksonville, 11-10, Saturday afternoon at Dorrance Field.
With the win, Carolina is now 1-0 on the campaign, while Jacksonville falls to 0-2.
How It Happened
• The two teams traded goals in the opening quarter, with Brevin Wilson, Luke Macaluso, Leif Hagerup and James Matan posting tallies for the Tar Heels, who held a 4-3 advantage.
• In the second quarter, Wilson scored the period's lone goal, pushing Carolina's lead at the half to two, 5-3.
• Carolina outscored Jacksonville 3-2 in the third, courtesy of scores from Luke Bair, Mason Szewczyk and Ty English, taking an 8-5 edge into the final frame.
• The Tar Heels opened the fourth scoring two of the first three goals, leading 10-6 with 12:11 remaining in the game.
• Jacksonville answered with four-straight goals of their own, tying the matchup at 10-all, with 3:31 left on the clock.
• Szewczyk scored the game-winning goal with 2:26 remaining, his second score on the day, propelling Carolina to the one-goal victory.
