TAR HEELS AND FIGHTING IRISH
• North Carolina and Notre Dame meet for the 21st time in a series that began in 1949.
• Notre Dame leads the series 18-2-0. Both Carolina victories occurred in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels scored a 12-7 decision in 1960 and beat the Fighting Irish, 29-24, in 2008.
• This will be just the the second game in the series when both teams are ranked. In the only previous time in 1950, No. 1 Notre Dame won 14-7 over No. 20 UNC in South Bend.
• In the previous 20 meetings, Notre Dame has been ranked in 13 of those. The Irish was ranked No. 1 in the country in three of the previous meetings and in the top 10 on eight occasions.
• North Carolina faced Notre Dame every season from 1949 to 1956 and 12 times between 1949 and 1962. This season will be the fourth meeting since 2006.

LAST TIME OUT
• Sam Howell set school records for passing yards (550), total touchdowns (7) and passing touchdowns (6) in leading Carolina to a 59-53 victory over Wake Forest on Saturday, Nov. 14.
• Notre Dame extended the nation's longest winning streak to 14 games following a 45-31 win at Boston College on Nov. 14. Brian Kelly recorded his 100th career win at Notre Dame, tying Lou Holtz for the second most all-time wins in program history.

• Mack Brown has never faced Notre Dame in his head coaching career that spans 32 seasons.
