GAME 8: @NC STATE 79, UNC 76
• Carolina rallied from a 17-point deficit in the first half to pull within a point at 63-62, fell behind again by 13, cut the lead to two with 10 seconds to play and had two three-point chances in the final seconds that could have tied the game.
• It was the sixth time in eight games this season UNC fell behind by 10 or more points in the first half and the third time UNC subsequently lost the game (also to Texas and Iowa).
• It was just the fifth loss in 37 games to NC State under Roy Williams.
• It snapped a seven-game win streak for the Tar Heels at NC State.
• Both teams shot over 50 percent in the first half and under 40 in the second. The Wolfpack missed its first three field goal attempts, then made 11 of its next 13 attempts.
• NC State's first-half field goal percentage of .528 was the highest by an opponent in a half in the first eight games. That included converting 6 of 9 from three-point range.
• NC State led 46-29 at the 4-minute timeout, but Carolina closed the half on a 13-3 run.
• The Pack led by no more than four points over a seven-minute stretch in the second half, and UNC cut it to one on a three-point play by Platek with 8:38 to play. Devon Daniels then scored eight straight points for the Pack, en route to a game-high 21 points, as State built its lead to 77-64 with 5:13 to play.
• UNC went on a 9-0 run, but missed its final seven field goal attempts over the last 2:19.
• Bacot (16 points on 7 of 9 from the floor) led UNC in scoring for the third straight game. He led all players on both teams with a plus-14.
• Kessler had six rebounds, three blocks and three steals, all of which tied or set season highs.
• NC State scored 19 points off 18 UNC turnovers. It was the fifth time in eight games UNC had more turnovers than assists.
• Carolina had a 19-2 edge in fastbreak points, its second-highest margin in the first eight games (24-6 at Iowa).
• The Tar Heels had six more offensive rebounds than NC State, but only a 17-15 advantage in second-chance points.
