February 25, 2020 | Women's Gymnastics
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina senior Khazia Hislop was named East Atlantic Gymnastics League Specialist of the Week for Week 7 on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Hislop's sixth award comes after she claimed first place finishes on both vault and floor exercise in two meets against the University of New Hampshire.
Hislop has not posted below a 9.900 on vault since the Tar Heels meet against Pittsburgh on January 25. Since then, she has posted a 9.900 four times and matched her career-high score of 9.925 on the event once at NC State. On the floor, Hislop has continued to maintain her average score of 9.850 or higher for nearly 30 consecutive meets dating back to 2018.
Last week, Hislop earned 9.900 on vault and floor in both meets against New Hampshire, and 9.800 and 9.825 on balance beam. Her first place finishes in both meets on both vault and floor helped lead the Tar Heels to two victories.
Hislop is averaging the highest score on vault in the EAGL conference (9.891), the second-highest score on floor (9.878), and the fifth-highest score on beam (9.766).
Most notably, Hislop is currently ranked 8th in the nation on vault. Her consistent scores each week have allowed her to continue to climb higher in the rankings. After posting her personal-best score in Week 6 (9.925), Hislop has entered the top 10 and is within striking distance of moving even further up.
Up next, the Tar Heels will host George Washington University for Senior Night. The meet is set to take place on Friday, Feb. 28 at 6:45 p.m. in Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, N.C.
