Tar Heels Climb To No. 2 In Oracle/ITA Poll

CHAPEL HILL—The University of North Carolina men's tennis team climbed a spot to No. 2 in the latest Oracle/ITA Division I Men's Team Rankings released this week.
The Tar Heels were idle last week, resting up after finishing second at the ITA Indoor National Championships in Madison, Wisc., February 14-17. Â Along the way to reaching the national final, Carolina beat then-No. 1 Ohio State in the semifinal round.
Southern California is No. 1 in the poll and beat UNC in the ITA Indoors championship match last Monday. Following No. 2 UNC in the poll is No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Texas, No. 5 Michigan, No. 6 Florida, No. 7 Columbia, No. 8 Stanford, No. 9 North Carolina State and No. 10 Tennessee. Â
Other Atlantic Coast Conference teams in the poll include No. 15 Florida State, No. 17 Wake Forest, No. 20 Miami, No. 29 Duke, No. 37 Virginia, No. 40 Clemson, No. 46 Georgia Tech and No. 47 Louisville.
Carolina (10-1) has nine wins by shutout this season, five of which have come against ranked opponents in the ITA poll.
UNC will return to action this weekend when it hosts Virginia Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both schools. The Carolina women will face the Hokies on Sunday as well, beginning their match at 11 a.m. at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Â Admission is free.
