UNC Moves Past Sun Devils At ITA Indoors, NC State Up Next

CHICAGO - North Carolina took another step towards its fourth ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Friday morning with a 4-1 victory over Arizona State from XS Tennis Village.Â
The No. 2 seed Tar Heels (7-0)Â advance to Saturday's quarterfinal match against No. 7 seed NC State at 1 p.m. ET.
After cruising through doubles in about 20 minutes, the Tar Heels took a commanding 3-0 lead in the match with singles wins by Makenna Jones at court five and Elizabeth Scotty on court four. Jones, the senior from Greenville, S.C., was first off with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Cali Jankowski, while Scotty, the newcomer from Annapolis, Md., followed minutes after with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Lauryn John-Baptiste.
Senior Sara Daavetilla clinched the match on court two for the Tar Heels with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Sammi Hampton. The Williamston, Michigan, product moved into a tie for sixth on the program's all-time singles win list with career victory No. 119, tying Jenna Long, the three-time All-America that won the 2007 NCAA Doubles Championship with Sara Anundsen.
