Hoeg Wins Rammy Award For Record Breaking Performance
April 16, 2020 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL – Already the North Carolina's women's lacrosse team's all-time leader in assists entering this year, Katie Hoeg became the school's career points leader in what proved to be the Tar Heels' last game of the season on March 9.
On Thursday, that achievement earned her the Rammy Award for Record Breaking Performance.
With four goals and four assists in UNC's 20-18 win over Northwestern, Hoeg boosted her career point total to 261, breaking Corey Donohoe's record of 256, set from 2008-11. The performance garnered IWLCA Division I Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors for Hoeg, who was named one of Inside Lacrosse's National Players of the Year, along with Jamie Ortega.
Breaking records isn't anything new for Hoeg.
On April 24, 2019, Hoeg dished out six assists – an ACC Tournament single-game record – in UNC's 19-9 win over Virginia Tech. That brought her season assist total to 56, breaking her own single-season program record of 50, set in 2018. She finished the year with 73 assists.
On her way to reaching that mark, Hoeg tallied three assists in Carolina's 15-11 win over Florida on May 12, 2019, breaking Ela Hazar's school assist record of 121. After recording 30 assists in the shortened 2020 season, Hoeg is up to 162 for her career.
The eighth-annual Rammy Awards are being announced all week on the @GoHeels Twitter account. The awards show, typically held at Memorial Hall in April, highlights outstanding performances over the past year.
