Heels Help USA Win Atlas Cup, Humphrey Named MVP

Four University of North Carolina women's lacrosse players helped Team USA win the Atlas Cup, while two others joined the team's training camp last week ahead of the tournament. Chloe Humphrey, Ally Mastroianni, Marie McCool and Taylor Moreno helped Team USA go 3-0 over the weekend with Humphrey claiming MVP honors. Current Heels Kate Levy and Eliza Osburn were invited to Team USA training camp, while fellow Heel Brooklyn Walker Welch helped Canada go 2-1 in its three games.
The US opened play on Friday with a commanding 18-5 win over Haudenosaunee followed by a 24-9 victory against Puerto Rico on Saturday. With both teams entering Sunday 2-0, the USA's match against Canada would decide the Atlas Cup. The US jumped out to a 13-5 halftime lead and secured the cup by beating the Candadians 18-11. The Atlas Cup finished off a successful for Team USA after having won the sixes competition at the World Games and the Pan-American Championship.
Humphrey earned her recognition after scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists over three games. She tallied four goals and two assists versus Haudenosaunee and added four goals and an assist against Puerto Rico, She capped her weekend with two goals and five assists in the match against Canada. McCool had a strong tournament, scoring nine goals and adding four assistss, while Mastroianni posted three goals and two assists. Moreno made 21 saves over three games and allowed just 15 goals. Walker-Welch finished the tournament with two goals and an assist.
